🌀 About the Team

The Hurricanes are the recreational summer swim team at Hope Valley Country Club and proud members of the Durham Summer Swim League (DSSL). Our focus is on developing swimmers, building team spirit, and creating unforgettable summer memories.

💡 Who Can Join

• You must be age 18 or younger as of June 1 of the current year. 
• You must be members of Hope Valley Country Club (not members? You can become members and then join our team! For those who don't play golf or tennis, you are encouraged to start a social membership which includes access to the pool and is cheaper than the full membership!) 
• All swimmers must be self-sufficient in the water by the first practice and able to swim 25 yards unassisted (one length of the pool) by the end of the Intrasquad mock-meet (usually occurs after two full weeks of practice).
• Swimmers not quite there yet? No problem! We offer swim lessons too as well as a developmental non-competitive swimming program (called our "Tropical Storms").

📆 Key Dates

• The season kicks off the Monday after Mother's Day (normally)
• A mock meet at the end of May, 5 dual meets on Wednesday evenings or Saturday mornings during the month of June, and the city championship meet in July. 
  • Swimmers are asked to prioritize attendance on meet days. Please do your best to schedule trips and sleep away camps around the meet schedule (or plan them for after the season ends). 
• Folks are encouraged to register early as it helps the club plan effectively for the season!

💬 What to Expect

• Practices 5 days a week (afternoon practices while school is still in session, flexible morning & afternoon options once school is out)
• Fun events, team spirit, and a big end-of-season banquet
• A great team environment! While swimming has a larger individual component than other sports, it is still a TEAM sport! We take pride in the community that we have built as Hurricanes and look forward to including you in such a great group.

Registration will open in late winter and can be completed directly through our website. We offer:

• Coaching from experienced, enthusiastic staff
• A team shirt and swim cap for every registered swimmer
• Optional team suits and merchandise for purchase
